Locally Grown Gardens | Butler University Engagement Photos | Jacqueline & Andrew

Jennifer Van Elk

On an overcast day at the beginning of winter, the light from the sun flowed through the clouds and through the big windows of Locally Grown Gardens. The air around the windows was cold, but Jacqueline and Andrew didn't mind as they sat on the sill of the window and snuggled up close to each other. They leaned toward each other, head first, until their foreheads and noses touched and Jacqueline raised a hand to Andrew's cheek. They were absolutely, adorably in love.

I had so much fun capturing Jacqueline and Andrew's engagement session at Butler University. The Butler University campus is so beautiful. Every time I shoot there I find myself secretly wishing I had more excuses to visit. Steve and I are really looking forward to capturing their wedding this fall.

Scottish Rite Cathedral | Indianapolis Wedding Photography | Madeline & Steve

Jennifer Van Elk

There was a slight haze over Indianapolis, turning the sky from it's usual blue color to a shimmery silver. Under this light cover, Madeline and Steve stood with their wedding party at the Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument in downtown Indianapolis. Madeline smiled radiantly and her eyes glimmered as they walked around the circle. She was the very portrait of happiness I always hope to find in a bride. As Steve and Madeline walked hand-in-hand, their wedding party following them, Steve gazed lovingly at Madeline. I loved how deeply in love they were with one another and how it was apparent throughout the entire day how happy they were to be married.

Steve and I are so happy that we were able to capture Madeline and Steve's wedding. Their wedding was so beautiful and well thought out. Our favorite part was when they did their first dance down on the ballroom dance floor of the Scottish Rite while all of their guests were up on the second level balcony for the cocktail hour, looking down on the two of them in the spotlight. It felt like a scene from a movie. It was a beautiful day to be downtown, traveling from St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church to the circle and then to the Scottish Rite. We are so glad we were a part of their wedding day.

Louisville Wedding | Kentucky Photography | Erica & David

Jennifer Van Elk

The midday sun was shining through the leaves of the tree, leaving a speckled pattern of light and shadow on the sidewalk in the park. It was one of the last warm days of autumn, and the leaves on the trees were a dark shade of green as they began preparations to change color before falling. Erica and David walked down the pathway, Erica holding her dress up as David lovingly guided her with a hand on the small of her back. They looked at each other while walking and smiled. No mere furtive, flirting glance, but a look of love and deep longing as they prepared for a lifetime together.

Steve and I had a lot of fun capturing Erica and David's wedding in Louisville, Kentucky.  They are such a kind couple, and their guests and family members were all incredibly kind as well. It was a great way to spend a Saturday. Not only was the wedding great, but it was also nice to have a night away from the kids. On the way down to Louisville, Steve and I stopped at 450 North Brewing Company in Columbus, Indiana for some of the best pizza the state of Indiana has to offer. It was altogether a lovely weekend, and we're so thankful Erica and David chose us to capture their wedding.

Laurel Hall | Indianapolis Wedding Photography | Kim & Alex

Jennifer Van Elk

Pop! The flash fired off in the darkness. Light streamed out from the windows of Laurel Hall, illuminating the guests standing outside. String lights above them provided a little ambience as well. Pop! The flash fired again. Kim and Alex were standing a few feet away from the guests, hugging each other in the gloomy light. The flash was backlighting them and highlighting their looks of adoration. All night they looked at each other this way, as if they were unconcerned with the rest of the people present, and totally enamored with each other. It was charming.

Steve and I had so much fun capturing Kim and Alex's wedding at Laurel Hall. The wedding had so many beautiful floral accents and details, and the catering was so unique. Every facet and detail of this wedding was attuned to represent this wonderful couple. Laurel Hall is already beautiful, but the way they decorated it for their wedding made it even more resplendent. Steve and I are so thankful we were able to be a part of their wedding day.
