A Van Elk Vacation

admin

356 days after our first family vacation, we had our second vacation as a family of three. With our busy schedules, it's been hard to find free time- but we did it! This year we spent 4 days in Tennessee with my in-laws. It was way too short but it was worth the drive to spend time with them. The boy went along with us and did fabulous during the 14 hours of driving (more family road trips?). Steve and I had to leave early for a wedding, but Steve's family spent the remainder of the week with Iain and brought him to us back yesterday. I loved relaxing, but my favorite part of it all was turning around to a little 2 year old boy yelling "Mommy! Mommy! Mommy!" with his arms stretched out wide. I might have developed a few tears.

We took just a few photos during the adventurous week (not as many as you'd think a photographer would capture).

Entering the Cincinnati Zoo. I love the zoo, but it was too hot. I liked the ice cream we bought at Graeter's much more than spending the day burning in the sun at the zoo (Graeter's is the best ice cream on the planet).

Indianapolis_Wedding_-002Again, it was really hot. We took breaks in the gift shops because of the luxurious air conditioning. Iain wanted to play with the trains that were for sale.

Indianapolis_Wedding_-003E wouldn't sit up on the rock to watch "the bear in the water" (Iain's words), so he peeked around the corner.

Indianapolis_Wedding_-004Tourist season in Gatlinburg and a siren didn't even stir the boy.

Indianapolis_Wedding_-005One of my favorite places in the area is the Ripley's Aquarium in the Smokies. We took E for the first time and he had a blast.

Indianapolis_Wedding_-013Scooping it out for him was a bit of a waste, look at that face!

Indianapolis_Wedding_-014We cannot do any portraits of him. He closes his eyes, runs away, or covers his face.  Photographers for parents- a waste.

We still love you, E.
